Callington’s Dance department was invited to perform at Ivybridge Community College as part of their Dance Showcase on Thursday 2nd March. This was a fantastic experience for the students at Callington, as they had the opportunity to perform in a purpose built theatre with specialist lighting and sound equipment. The year 10 students; Chantelle Taylor, Jade Hawken, Sophie Downing, Hannah Dilworth, Lauren Martin, Seb Pinkham and Kellan Sharp performed a piece entitled ‘Interaction’. The students used phrases they had learnt in their lesson time, to construct this dance during their lunch times. This number was a quirky, up-tempo and gestural piece, with some stunning lift and floor work. The 12 students; Caitlin Moore, Ellie Petherick-Davies, Natalia Ridgeway and Briea Saunders performed their version of Christopher Bruce’s ‘Rooster’ to the Rolling Stones songs ‘Little Red Rooster’ and ‘Paint It Black’. This was a technical and characterful dance and all the students rose to the challenge and demonstrated great professionalism. The students enjoyed the chance to watch other dancers of a similar age, undoubtedly, this will inspire them in their future work. Nicole De Ste Croix and Suzi Groom (Subject Leaders of Dance) were both incredibly proud of the student’s maturity and their level of expertise in performance. Ivybridge Community College will be joining us for Callington’s Dance Show on Tuesday 14th March from 6pm in the Main Hall. Tickets will be available on the door, for anyone who would like to come and watch some fantastic and diverse dance pieces.
