The Friday Band World Tour

On Monday 2 July, the College wind band, affectionately known as the Friday Band, went out to two of our feeder primary schools, Harrowbarrow and St Dominick, on their “2018 World Tour”.

The aim of this tour was to encourage primary students to start thinking about music, in particular learning or continuing to learn a musical instrument, either once they reach the College or currently in their primary schools, with a view to them eventually joining an ensemble like the Friday Band in the future.

The band played many well-known pieces such as Livin’ On A Prayer (Bon Jovi) and Shut Up And Dance (Walk The Moon). The primary students got involved with a bit of xylophone playing, led by one of the Music Ambassadors (Joe Hartill, Y10) during the Bands rendition of Cantina Band. A section of the band (Finn Hilsdon, Eva Pascoe, Daisy Mays, Aaron Chinn) also made up a Year 10 band and performed two pieces, Blame It On Me (George Ezra) and Furnace, a piece that is their own composition.

The primary students loved getting involved and answering questions, such as what instruments could they name, and the primary school staff had just as much fun with a bit of dancing in the background. There are definitely a few prospective drummers, flautists, and trumpeters to join the band in the years to come.

A huge well done should go to the band. They acted professionally throughout the day, with quick set ups and pack downs, and professional level performances where the students (and staff) played at their highest standards. A huge thank you should also go to both Harrowbarrow and St Dominick Primary Schools for hosting the band.

All in all, the Friday Band “2018 World Tour” was a humongous success, with primary schools already booking the band for after the Summer Holidays!

A huge well done to all involved!
